COMPREHENSIVE DICTIONARY OF INDUSTRY & TECHNOLOGY ON EVOTERM - HOW IT WORKS

The Comprehensive Dictionary of Industry & Technology [Dutch-English/English-Dutch] will be available later this summer through Evo-term licence subscription. Users pay an annual subscription for the use of the dictionary via the main Evo-term site. The first version is planned to be launched by the end of this summer.

Subscribers pay 250.-- euro to gain access to both dictionaries online and an additional 150.-- euro annual subscription after the first year. In this way users may benefit from the ever-expanding corpus of both dictionaries without the need to purchase the CDROM version.

COMPREHENSIVE DICTIONARY OF INDUSTRY & TECHNOLOGY ON EVO-TERM - HOW TO SUBSCRIBE

The Comprehensive Dictionary of Industry & Technology [Dutch-English/English-Dutch] will only be available to subscribers with a personal login and password provided by Translex. These can be ordered through this site. The entry fee is 175.-- euro [once only] and an extra 125.-- for the annual subscription. The annual subscription is payable each time the subscription expires after a year.

Users who subscribe before 1 Sepember 2009 receive a 25% discount and benefit from free use up till September of the trial version. The trial version of Dutch-English currently contains some 50,000 entries from various technical fields [building, electronics, solid state technology, telecomm, hydrology], as well as the final version of all Dutch entries of the letter A [8500 in total] and extensive selections of entries from the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, N, Q, X and Y. The English-Dutch version is extensively populated and still growing.

When ordering, subscribers receive their own login and password to gain access to the database system. This login and password is personal and is not transferable. The IP-addresses of each user are constantly monitored and logged by the system. This means that users who abuse the system and use a single login and password cooperatively or distribute their personal login and passwords to non-subscribers will be permanently blocked from further access. The system also logs hit frequencies of entries and terms, as well as the specialized fields queried by users. This enables us to determine which specialized fields are queried more often than others so that any additional entries can be prioritized for those specific fields as they are collected and imported into the system. A further benefit of this system is that entries and translations are verified by specialists in the respective fields. This is often not the case with public domain dictionary databases that can be edited and populated by non-specialists. The CDROM and folio versions/editions will also be available later this year at a price of 225.-- euro each [per volume]. However, CDROMs and folio editions become outdated over time, so the benefits of the online system are obvious: users of the online version benefit daily from the very latest up-to-date terms and translations in each specialized field and this is not the case with folio editions that are reprinted only when out of stock.
